For The Kids - Erylian Extra October 2020 Edition

October 2020 Newsletter Header.jpg

A little late with this months edition, between trying to get an episode finished and also working on getting everything ready for Game Day, time just slipped away and I was not able to get this pre-written like I have been. October itself, was not filled with a ton of fanfare for us, as most of what we were working on was the lead up to Extra Life Game Day. However, since I am getting this posted a bit late, I am going to take that opportunity to not only talk about October as whole, but the first part of November as well.

Extra Life Game Day - November 7th

Earlier in the month, we announced that we were going to be participating in Extra Life Game Day, once again. This was our third year doing so, and things went the best they ever have. We are developing a tradition as Adventures in Erylia that, in the month of October, leading up to Game Day, we start putting out efforts into raising money through Extra Life. We are getting better at it every year and we have had better results than the last with each following year, and this year was no exception. By the end of Game Day on October 8th, we had not only broken our previous fundraising record for Extra Life, we had doubled it! This year was a huge improvement for us in terms of setting up our fundraisers, with us including a number of incentives for our donors as a group, as well as a number of indidivual incentives for members of the team. I gotta give a shout out to a streamer friend of ours, American Bran Flakes. Because of him, Caitlin and I added in a last minute incentive to eat Bean Boozled, Bertie Botts Every Flavoured Beans, and the Bean Boozled Fiery Five jelly beans for donations, which turned out to be a huge hit with out viewers.

#TeamErylia has raised $1,235 as of writing this

Game day was a little more rough on us this year than in previous year, but I am still super pleased with how things went. At the 21 hour mark, Caitlin and I had to listen to the protests from our bodies that we needed to go to sleep. At the 23 hour mark, though it is unknown when it actually happened, Chris and Christa had both been taken over by sleep. But I have to hand it to Chantalle for being able to push through the entire 24 hours and carry the torch for us.

Though we make our focus be on Game Day itself, Extra Life is a year round fundraising event and we will be making more of an effort to get started earlier in the year next year.

The Weird Wall [Remastered]

This month we released a new remastered episode, still from our first Mieveht story arc. I am still not sure, on a personal level, how I feel about the change in these episodes once I give them another go. Mostly what I am getting at here, is how much less of an episode there is after I am done with the remaster than there was when i first edited these episodes 3 years ago. I will say, it doesn’t feel like anything is missing, but I don’t know if I should feel proud that the remastered version of The Weird Wall is less than half the length of the original release.

After recovering from their run in with what they believe to be some sort of cult, the party makes their way deeper into the Mieveht Undercity Sewers in search of their friend Xanphia. It is at this next level that they find hostile wild creatures fending for their lives in the sewer as they are set upon by a group of giant rats. After fighting them off, the party continues their way deeper into the sewer system, following the slow flow of water. They reach a wall that partially blocks their path, but beyond the wall, they hear new voices. And behind them, a whisper.

Nightwatch - An Aspect of Decay - Erylian Epic Arc 2

Technically, this episode was not finished until the start of this month, and was delayed even further as I was working on last minute things for Game Day. But it is out as I write this, and I want to include it here. I also want to say that since recording it, I have realized one, arc long, error that I made. Though I knew the overarching tie in with Grimfang, I had been misattributing his aspect as being Malice, when in reality it is Decay. All of the flavor around him aligns with being Decay, I just misattributed the title when doing the original prep for him like a year ago.

You can find the episode here, along with a breakdown of the topics we talked about through our sit down discussion, if there is something specific you wanted to hear about. If there is something you would have liked us to talk about, feel free to send us an email or join us on our Discord, and remember that we will take listener questions and discuss them on our next Nightwatch at the end of each story arc.

Adventures in Erylia Plays Among Us!

We know this game is sweeping the world right now and it has been staying in the popular view long enough that I don’t see it going anywhere any time soon. You’re probably playing it and so are we! We’ve been having a lot of fun with Among Us with it’s relatively quick games and being able to play with a variable amount of people up to 10. One of our biggest struggles as a group is most games are 4 or 6 players, so they’re too few for us to all play together or not enough to get a good group going in. Among Us has been great for us as our core group as well as expanding out our community of gamers. If you would like to play with us, come join our Discord. We are getting a group together usually at least once a week and you can chose to get notifications whenever we are getting a game going!

Into the Holiday Season

As we are now into November, we’re pretty officially into the holiday season here in the United States. This could make for some tumultuous times for us as a show as people’s schedules fill up with things related to the holidays. I am deciding to skip the next Remastered episode so that we can get right into Arc 3 of the Erylian Epic. To make sure we have enough audio to get us through to the new year, I am trying to make sure we get one, if not two, more session recorded this month. Though normally things slow down for us as a show around this time of year, my work has given us two blackout periods during the holidays. With the week of Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas off, I am hoping to take some extra time into keeping up releases for the show!
